Water Sanitation and Hygiene Education (WASH) |

This project is implementing in two villages of three districts of Ghor province, which is funded by UNICEF since January 2008 for 13 months and 2 weeks. The WASH program team is transferring the training, awareness sessions at each village for two months and they also introduce a clean village as sample for the program. Totally 12960 population with 75% female have been benefited form this program. |

Self Immolation Prevention Campaign |

This project is funded by HumaniTerra International under supervision of family protection commission related to Herat provincial Shura. This program is started on 1st Feb 08 for 11 months to be implemented by VWO in all districts of Herat province in two phases. Totally, 50,000 people 70% female have been benefited from the campaign sessions. |

Woman's Legal and Social Protection |

Since the beginning of August 2007, VWO has been implementing the Women Legal and Social program in Ghor and Badghis provinces. This program is funded by Christian Aid and implemented in Herat, Ghor and Badghis for the three years. WLSP program objectives are:
- Women's right awareness and sensitization of community and the government authorities.
- Networking with other agencies to get their co-operation and support for legal and social protection for women.
- Maintaining a livelihood for women under the institutional care including prison and correction centre.
- Reintegrating of women released from prison and correction centre.
- Advocacy for birth and marriage registration.
- Create and develop women cadre, development worker legal and social protection advocacy.

Gender Based Violence Training |

A project for countering gender-based violence has been funded to VWO by Novib through Afghan Women Network (AWN) since 1st January 2007. This project is completed on 3rd December 2007. The project fund was extended till end of October 2008. The project scope of work was consisting of workshops, seminar, and exhibition that have been going on since the start of the project according to the approved plan between AWN and VWO. The project has had a great impact on the lives of the women in Herat. Since the beginning of the project activities, the level of violence amongst the women of Herat has decreased while at the same time, the number of women whom have adjourned to the court has had quite a massive increase beside of other gender related violence reduction. |

Carpet Weaving and Embroidery |

VWO implemented the women development project which was consisting of embroidery and carpet weaving in Zendajan and Ghorian districts of Herat province. The project was successfully completed on 22 of October 2007. The project was funded by FAO/AALP and Seventy women learnt income generating skill through the above mentioned projects in both districts. |

CRS awarded VWO with the community based education and hygiene education project in Adreskan district, Herat province, The activity is being carried out in various rural villages of Adreskan district not accessible to both based and hygiene education. |

Food Processing Business Development |
|
VWO implemented a food processing and business development project in Zendajan district of Herat province in 2007. Forty women of the Zendjan district were the direct beneficiaries of this project. The project was implemented through the Catholic Relief Services (CRS). |

The Embassy of Finland, Kabul funded the construction of Five (5) Women's Tearooms. VWO established these tearooms in five strategic locations of Herat city. The facilities are run exclusively by women for women. The tearooms are ongoing and the incomes directly go to the vulnerable women who work their. |

VWO implemented a silk production project in Zendajan in 2007. The project was funded by Christian Aid. A total number of 100 women were the direct beneficiaries of this project. The women were trained in silk production and making cloth from it. Now the women have a silk production corporation center, which produces different types of cloths and the production center has high demands in the current local market. |

Psycho- Social Care for the Drought Affected Population |

VWO implemented a Psycho- Social care for the Drought Affected Population of 120 volunteers from Ghor, Badghis, Faryab, Farah and Herat provinces in 2007. The project was funded by Christian Aid. |

Poultry Breeding Vocational Training Project |

UN Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) funded a VWO Poultry Breeding Vocational Training Project in 2005. The project was carried out in Herat province for the training of more than 1000 housewives. |

With the financial assistance of Women for Afghan Women (WAW) USA, VWO constructed a permanent building to the Women Shuras of Zindajan district in Herat province. The built center provided facilitation for socio-economic empowerment of women in the district of Herat province. |

UNICEF Afghanistan entrusted VWO with a Hygiene Education Campaign in 2005. The activity was carried out in various districts of Ghor and Herat provinces in the Western Region. This outreach campaign had more than 20,000 beneficiaries. |

An Awareness Campaign, highlighting International Womem's Day (8th March), was carried out in March, 2005 with the assistance of Catholic Relief Services & Christian Aid in Herat province. |

UN Office for Drugs & Crimes (UNODC) awarded a drug demand reduction project to VWO. The activity was carried out in Herat and Ghor provinces of Western Afghanistan in 2005. |

Distribution of daily newspapers and monthly magazines in Herat City was carried out under a project funded by Embassy of Finland, Kabul. Physically disabled people were employed for distribution of publications all over the city. |

Journalism Services Training Course for journalism students of Herat University, which was conducted in 2004 with the assistance of the Provincial Rehabilitation Team, Herat (US Army). |

Support was provided to female prisoners in Herat jail with the assistance of the Provincial Rehabilitation Team, Herat. Daily use commodities were provided to prisoners and their children in 2004. |

Vulnerable women from 6th district of Herat city were provided with training for candle making under a project funded by Christian Aid (EO/CA). The project was co-funded by World Food Program (WFP) who provided food commodities for beneficiaries. |

A conflict resolution & family counseling center was established by VWO in Herat city with the assistance of Royal Netherlands Embassy, Kabul. The center provided necessary psycho-social advice and legal assistance to troubled families and sought amicable solution for their disputes. |
