Institutional Capacity Building & Women’s Rights Advocacy
The project is an initiative of the USAID under the Ambassadors Small Grant Program (ASGP) to support the local NGOs for gender equality. The major component of the project is the technical and administrative capacity building of VWO staff. This will include training for project planning, financial management and refresher courses for the VWO shelter staff. The project has a component of advocacy for women’s rights and gender equality as well. This includes the capacity building of stakeholders and community decision makers for a better understanding of women’s issues in the society. The project is designed for a period of twelve calendar months and will be carried out in Herat, Ghor and Badhis provinces of the Western region of Afghanistan.

Women Leadership Program
The proposed Women’s Leadership & Conflict Management Institute is designed to provide a comprehensive training program for the women of Afghanistan who are eager to gain the leadership and technical skills necessary to serve in advanced professional and leadership positions. Its purpose is to enhance not just the employability of women for jobs in government departments, the private sector, and national and international NGOs, but also to provide them with the skills that will lead to an increased number of women in decision making positions. The Institute will deliver its leadership and conflict management program over a period of forty-eight (48) calendar months and it will be donated by US Department of State through US Embassy in Kabul.

Women Resource Center
The project will be supported by the PRT Herat and will be established in the Women for Women Market of Herat city. The resource centre will be equipped with computers, printers, internet facility and books. The project will directly benefit working women and women seeking job opportunities and need to develop their CVs and other documents. Thousand of female students of high schools, colleges and universities will also be among the direct beneficiaries of the resource centre as they will be able to use modern information technology tools to further their academic studies and interact worldwide. Women of Herat city will be able to utilize the resource centre to launch various campaigns and coordinate their efforts.

Self Immolation Project
The proposed Phase-II of the self-immolation prevention campaign is designed for 12 calendar months and will be carried out in Heart city. HumaniTerra International, France, will fund the project for a contractual agreement of 12 calendar months. Awareness will be provided to students, their parents, teachers of two schools and for the people coming to Herat Regional Hospital, Herat Burn Centre and Herat Maternity Hospital regarding the act of self-immolation and its disastrous consequences. VWO will carry out all the proposed project activities as the implementation partner of Humanitarian International.

UNICEF Clean Village 2010
Within the recognized strategy frameworks, UNICEF and VWO agreed to continue the implementation of the “clean village concept” in the selected locations for totally 245 household in Herat and Ghor provinces for ten calendar months. The project team will coordinate with the community development committees (CDCs) in the villages in collaboration of the local authorities for effective implementation of the project. The project activities will be carried out in close co-ordination with the department of Rural and Rehabilitation Development (RRD). |
